For owner-operators who run the numbers on every load

Check what a load pays before you book it, then plan the legal trip and keep the IFTA, per diem and detention records your business depends on.

  • Profit, rate per mile and HOS days before you book
  • IFTA miles by state from GPS, plus receipt scanning
  • Per diem days logged from GPS at $80 a day
Fort Route for owner-operators

Every load is a business decision

Under your own authority, the rate is only the starting point. A load has to cover diesel, empty miles, tolls and the truck payment, and it has to fit your hours without costing you the next appointment.

The records start after delivery. IFTA wants miles by state and fuel receipts every quarter. Per diem needs a count of your days away from home, and detention only gets paid when you can show the times.

Fort Route is a truck GPS built for that side of the job too. It plans routes for your rig and your hours, and its Money and Trips tabs hold the tools below.

The tools that matter most

Load calculator

Enter the pickup and delivery, and the load calculator routes the run for your truck, plus the empty miles from where you are now. It prices diesel at the EIA weekly average along the route and adds your own cost per mile (a default industry average until you set yours). You see profit, dollars per mile, dollars per hour and the HOS days the load takes, and your last 12 checks stay saved.

Fuel plan

Give the fuel plan your tank size, fuel on board and mpg, and it shows where to buy and how many gallons, cheapest station first. It keeps a 15% reserve and favors stops where your hours plan already has you parked. Prices come from driver-reported station prices where known and EIA regional averages elsewhere.

Type in your ELD clocks and add up to 8 stops, each with its own on-duty time. Fort Route places the 30-minute break, the 10-hour reset and any 34-hour restart at real truck stops and rest areas, and the legal arrival time already includes them. That is the number to give a broker who asks for an ETA.

IFTA miles and fuel receipts

Miles by state are logged from GPS while you navigate, and you can add a planned route's miles too. Photograph a fuel receipt and the phone reads the gallons, price, total, date, state and truck stop for you to confirm. At quarter end, the IFTA worksheet exports as a CSV or a printable PDF.

Per diem log

The per diem log records each day you spend 50 or more miles from the Home address you set, using GPS while the app is open, and counts departure and return days at 75%. It applies the IRS rate of $80 a day ($86 outside the continental US) from Notice 2026-60. You can mark any day by hand and export the log as a CSV for your tax preparer.

Detention and documents

Park within about 250 meters of your destination or a stop for 3 minutes, and the detention clock starts by itself, then stops when you pull out. Set your free time and hourly rate, and share a report with the GPS times. The document scanner turns a BOL, POD, lumper receipt or rate confirmation into one clean PDF you can send from your phone.

Frequently asked questions

Is Fort Route free for owner-operators?

Yes, Fort Route is free during the beta and for the first year after launch. Details are on the pricing page.

Does Fort Route replace my ELD?

No, Fort Route is a planning aid, and your ELD record is the legal record. You type your current clocks in, and the app plans breaks and resets from them.

Can I file my IFTA return from the app?

No, the app prepares the quarterly worksheet, and you or your preparer file the return with your base jurisdiction. State lines in the app are approximate (within about a kilometer), so review the miles by state before you file.

How do I get access?

Request a spot on the beta page, and invite codes are sent by email. The web app at app.fortroute.com runs in Android and iPhone browsers.
