What Fort Route collects on fortroute.com and in the beta app, how we use it, who handles it, and how to reach us about your data.

Last updated: November 2, 2026

This policy explains what information Fort Route collects through fortroute.com and the Fort Route beta app, how we use it, and the choices you have. "Fort Route", "we" and "us" mean the team that runs the website and the app. If anything here is unclear, write to [email protected].

The short version

  • Most of what you enter in the app stays on your phone.
  • We use signup information to run the beta and to send invite codes and product updates.
  • We don't sell your information, we don't share it for advertising, and we don't sell location data.
  • The website uses no advertising cookies.

What we collect on the website

When you join the beta or the waitlist at fortroute.com, the form asks for:

  • Your email address
  • Your first name
  • Your phone number (optional)
  • Your driver role
  • Your fleet size
  • Your phone type (Android or iPhone)
  • Your home state
  • The freight you haul (optional)
  • How you heard about Fort Route

Along with your answers, we record the page you signed up on, the site or link that referred you (including any campaign tags, known as UTM tags), and the time you gave consent.

Cloudflare carries traffic to the website for security and content delivery, so it sees visitors' IP addresses.

The website uses no advertising cookies. The only cookie it uses is the one that keeps Fort Route team members signed in to the site's admin area.

What we collect in the app

The app has no accounts yet. During the beta, you get in with an invite code we send you by email.

Data that stays on your phone

Most of what you enter or record in the app is stored on your phone:

  • Your truck profile
  • Your hours-of-service clocks
  • Your trips
  • Receipts and receipt photos
  • Documents you scan
  • IFTA and per diem logs
  • Reports you make during the beta, such as parking and scale reports

Receipt reading (text recognition) runs on your phone, so a receipt photo is read on the device rather than uploaded for processing. The code that does the reading is downloaded to your phone from the jsDelivr content delivery network.

Your location

The app uses your phone's location on the phone, for turn-by-turn navigation and for its logs. Your phone asks for permission before the app can use location, and you can change that permission in your phone's settings at any time. Navigation doesn't work without it.

What leaves your phone, and why

Some features need to send or fetch data over the internet:

  • To plan a route, the app sends your trip points (start, stops and destination), your truck's size and weight, and route shapes to Fort Route's routing server at api.fortroute.com, which returns routes, elevation and speed limits.
  • The app's settings have a routing server field for testing. If you fill it in, route requests go to the server you enter instead.
  • The app downloads place data from Fort Route's server. To find places near your route that aren't in that list, it may ask public OpenStreetMap data services (Geofabrik's Postpass and Overpass API servers) about the map area around your route.
  • Road-work feeds load from the state or city transportation agency that publishes them, some through Fort Route's server.
  • When you search for an address or place, the text you type goes to Photon, a geocoding service run by komoot, to find matches.
  • To show weather alerts, the app sends the areas along your route to the US National Weather Service.
  • Map tiles, the pieces that draw the map, load from OpenFreeMap for the area you're viewing.
  • Live DOT camera images load directly from the state department of transportation's own server.
  • The app loads its typeface from Google Fonts, its map code from unpkg and its receipt-reading code from jsDelivr.
  • HERE features are optional. If you add your own HERE key in the app's settings, toll prices, diesel prices near you or along your route, and address searches go to HERE with your key and the route or area they're about.

Services your phone contacts directly can see your device's IP address, as any website can. They handle those requests under their own privacy policies.

How we use information

We use the information you give us on the website to:

  • Run the beta, including reviewing requests and sending invite codes
  • Send product updates by email

In the app, the data on your phone powers the features you use on your phone. Data the app sends to the services listed above is sent so they can return what you asked for: a route, search results, weather alerts, map tiles or a camera image.

Who processes it

These are the services that handle data for Fort Route or that the app contacts on your behalf:

  • Fort Route's own server in the United States stores signup information in a database, plans routes at api.fortroute.com, and serves place data and some road-work feeds.
  • Geofabrik and Overpass API servers receive the map area around your route when the app looks up places there.
  • State and city transportation agencies serve road-work feeds and camera images.
  • Cloudflare carries traffic to fortroute.com for security and content delivery, and sees visitors' IP addresses.
  • Email delivery providers process the emails we send you, such as invite codes and product updates.
  • Photon, run by komoot, receives the text of address and place searches.
  • The US National Weather Service receives route areas so it can return weather alerts.
  • OpenFreeMap serves map tiles.
  • State departments of transportation serve live camera images directly to your phone.
  • Google Fonts, unpkg and jsDelivr deliver the app's typeface and code to your phone.
  • HERE receives toll, fuel-price and search requests only if you add your own HERE key.

What we don't do

  • We don't sell your personal information.
  • We don't sell location data.
  • We don't share signup information for advertising.
  • We don't use advertising cookies.
  • We don't require an account to use the app.

If we add usage analytics to the app later, location in them will be opt-in and coarse, and we'll update this policy before we add them.

Your choices and rights

You can:

  • Unsubscribe from any email we send, or write to us and we'll take you off the list.
  • Ask for a copy of the signup information we hold about you.
  • Ask us to correct signup information that's wrong.
  • Ask us to delete your signup information.
  • Delete the data the app keeps on your phone by removing it in the app or clearing the app's data on your phone.
  • Turn location access on or off in your phone's settings.

To make a request, email [email protected]. We may need to confirm the request comes from you, for example by replying to the email address you signed up with.

US state privacy rights

Depending on where you live, state privacy laws may give you rights over your personal information, including the right to:

  • Know what personal information we have about you and get a copy
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Delete your information
  • Opt out of the sale of your information or its use for targeted advertising

We don't sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising. You can use any of these rights by emailing [email protected], and where the law allows, an authorized agent can make a request for you. If we can't complete a request, we'll explain why, and where your state's law provides an appeal, you can ask us to reconsider. We won't treat you differently for using your privacy rights.

Data retention

We keep signup information while the beta and our launch communications run. If you ask us to delete it, we delete it.

Data the app keeps on your phone stays there until you delete it or clear the app's data.

Security

We keep most app data on your phone rather than on our servers, and we collect only the signup details listed above. Signup information is stored on Fort Route's server in the United States. Website traffic passes through Cloudflare's security network, and the site's admin area requires a team login.

No system is perfectly secure. Because most of your Fort Route data lives on your phone, protect the phone with a screen lock. If you find a security problem, tell us at [email protected]. If a security incident affects your personal information, we'll notify you as applicable law requires.

Children

Fort Route is for adults. You must be 18 or older to join the beta or use the app. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

When we change this policy, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If we add usage analytics to the app, we'll update this policy first.
